Rwanda is one of the fastest-formalising economies on the continent, and its mineral sector now sits inside the supply chains behind everything from electric vehicles to consumer electronics.

Race two runs through Kigali — a city of ridgelines, hard climbs and long descents. The route leaves the Convention District at first light, drops through the valley roads and climbs back along the ridge above the city, finishing where it started. It is the hilliest stage of the seven, and the one the team is most curious about.
